First came the angel hair Dubai chocolate. Then came the Dubai chewy cookie by Nasty Cookie. Now, 7-Eleven Singapore has launched the Pepsi Dubai Chocolate ($2), which sees the iconic cola drink supposedly infused with the viral chocolate treat. You’ll find it at all 7-Eleven outlets nationwide while stocks last.

We’re sure many of you are incredulous at the idea of a Dubai chocolate cola. So were we—it was as if science had gone too far. But we went in with an open mind, and bought… three whole bottles.

So how did the drink actually taste? Firstly, it must be noted that this is a zero-sugar drink. The taste of artificial sweeteners was quite prominent here, but it shouldn’t be too distracting if you usually opt for zero-sugar cola.

But the Dubai chocolate element just wasn’t that prominent here. There’s a slight chocolatey, almost nutty finish, but it’s an afterthought to the flavours of Pepsi Zero Sugar.

We let our colleagues try the drink as well, and some of them could not even detect any notes of Dubai chocolate. Some even said it tasted a lot more like Pepsi Vanilla, and were disappointed to not find bits of kataifi pastry and pistachio in the drink—not that we think that’s a good idea.

Would we recommend the Pepsi Dubai Chocolate? Honestly, it’s not worth going out of your way for, and it doesn’t taste particularly good or interesting to begin with. But if you’re a really big fan of Pepsi, Dubai chocolate, or both, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot.
