Surrey Hills Grocer in ION Orchard has Australian-style brunch

We first featured Surrey Hills Grocer in our New Restaurants in February 2022 guide when they opened in Jurong earlier this year. This time, they’re back with a second cafe opening: ION Orchard! This comes as great news for frequent town-goers, as the popular Australian-style cafe serves more than just brunch—you can expect a whole slew of plated mains, fresh doughnuts, artisanal cocktails and more!

The Triple Truffle Fries ($16++) is a recommended starter; you get a generous basket of fries tossed in truffle oil, topped with freshly grated parmesan, and served with a truffle aioli on the side.

There’s also the Burrata Salad ($26++) that’s perfect for sharing. This refreshing salad is a colourful mix of heirloom tomatoes, sweet cherry tomatoes, parmesan crisps, and fresh greens, finished with a creamy and indulgent burrata ball on top.

For mains, fill up on the Chilli Crab Spaghetti ($26++): al dente pasta, fresh crab meat, Japanese mustard greens, and ebiko, held together by a spicy house-made chilli crab rempah.

There’s also the uber-tender Roast Chicken with Grapes and Pepper Jus ($35++) if you want something meatier. Featuring organic and antibiotic-free spring chicken that’s sous vide for six hours and slow-roasted till charred, the meat sits on a bed of creamy potato puree bed and a sweet-savoury sauce.

Ex-Antoinette Chef Pang, also the owner of Pang’s Hakka Noodles, heads the dessert side of things, which explains why the sweet selection is so extensive.

Those with a sweet tooth will go gaga over the Cereals Crusted French Toast ($22++). This showstopping dessert comprises a thick brioche French toast slab that’s coated in crunchy cereals and layered with fresh cream, ice cream, fruits, and edible flowers.

The sweet treat is best shared among the table, though we’re not one to judge if you wish to scoff it down alone.

The Queen Victoria Donuts ($14++) are another must-order; you get eight bite-sized doughnuts loaded with a tangy raspberry jam, topped with fresh cream and crumble. Two other flavours are available: Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate.

Otherwise, head to the counter to choose from a range of fresh bombolini, with flavours such as Lavender Lime Mascarpone ($5++), Basque Burnt Cheesecake ($5++), and Pistachio ($5++).

Surrey Hills Grocer is located on the fifth floor of ION Orchard. The main entrance is somewhat hidden; you can access it via the carpark, so you can get there by taking the mall elevator.

They’re super popular even on weekdays, so it’s best to make a reservation before heading down.
