The Bank is a new burger bar hidden behind an ATM in Tanjong Pagar
Walk along Craig Road and you’ll spot a curious-looking ATM on the first floor of the row of shophouses. This ATM doesn’t belong to any financial institution, but to The Bank, a burger joint and bar that quietly soft-launched just last month.
Run by the same peeps behind the now-defunct Burger Joint in Amoy Street, The Bank has a small menu of good old American burgers, with decadent milkshakes and a curated selection of 12 craft beers on tap.
Slide open the ATM, and you’ll step into a neon-lit diner that transports you right back into an 80s American diner, complete with a playlist and decor to match.
Start the meal with some of their milkshakes, made with only Haagen-Dazs ice cream and milk. Don’t count your calories here—just sit back and enjoy one of their classic flavours, such as Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry, or Oreo. Each is priced at $12++, or otherwise, you can add Reese’s peanut butter cups to any with a top-up of $2++.
Our undeniable favourite was the Chicken Burger ($18++), which comes with a huge, whole buttermilk-fried chicken leg, battered in a house-made herb blend.
Topped with melted American cheese, you get to choose between house-made Spicy Coleslaw or crispy Bacon with savoury Herb Aioli—also house-made—to accompany the chonky fried chicken leg. If you’re feeling hungry, consider going for a Double ($26++), which sees two whole chicken patties in the brioche bun.
Then, there’s Signature Cheeseburger (from $18.80++), featuring a patty or two of hand-butchered, house-ground, and pressed 100% Angus beef. These patties are made right in The Bank’s kitchen daily, so they’re as fresh as you get.
These thick patties are similarly dressed with melted American cheese, as well as lettuce, tomato slices, onions, and a house-made mayo-based sauce, with gherkins on the side.
You can’t have burgers without fries, and at The Bank, you can order Cheese Fries ($11++) or Spicy Bacon Cheesefries ($14++), for skinny French fries lightly melted over with cheddar.
This basket of carbs comes with jalapeno slices, and is drizzled with sriracha and mayonnaise, then topped generously with crisp bacon bits.
