With so many new cafes springing up recently, cue Hello Arigato and Dewgather, it can be hard to keep track of ‘em all. Here’s a compiled list of the best cafes in the East of Singapore that are worth your weekend brunch with family and friends.
1. Awfully Chocolate Bakery & Cafe

Awfully Chocolate is famed for its chocolate desserts and cakes, but the brand also has some serious chops in the brunch department. Try it out for yourself at Awfully Chocolate Bakery & Cafe, the brand’s first and only flagship restaurant in the East.
The family-friendly eatery offers a wide selection of reinvented brunch hits. The first is their value-for-money Bakery Club Brunch For Two ($52++), which offers diners three courses for brunch. You start with a house-made Cacao Granola, paired with breakfast fruit and Greek yoghurt, before moving onto their creamy Truffle Scrambled Eggs, served alongside a whole ciabatta, baked to order. You can choose to have the bread laced with roasted aubergine or a whole camembert for $5++, or parma ham and garlic tomato for an added $6++.The meal also comes with two cups of their signature Really Fresh Chocolate Milk, where cold Hokkaido milk is mixed with their premium dark cocoa.

If you prefer a sweeter brunch, try their Pancakes with Crazy Good Chocolate ($22++). A stack of nutty organic buckwheat pancakes is dressed with caramelised bananas, berries, maple syrup, and your choice of chocolate poured straight from their taps. Choose between 70% or 60% dark chocolate, or the 45% dark milk chocolate for something creamier. Plus, the chocolate is free-flow!
While you’re there, be sure to nab a couple of pastries from their Weekend Fresh Bakes selection—great for dining in-house with a cup of coffee, or grabbing to-go. These are all baked fresh and in-house daily too.

2. Breakfast Grill
Loaded sandwiches like the ones Breakfast Grill serves are getting all the hype right now for their massive portions and piles of ingredients. Cheeses ($10) uses five different kinds of cheese, making for a mega cheese pull that is not only IG-worthy but also delicious. For something more interesting, the Hot Chick ($15.50) won’t disappoint with its creamy scrambled eggs, jalapeno peppers, umami garlic aioli, and crushed Cheetos.

Located along East Coast Park, East Coast Commune is the perfect place to stop by after a morning cycle. You can’t go wrong with the Truffle Duck Carbonara ($19) and its blend of honey-smoked duck and a truffle-parmesan emulsion. However, if that’s too food coma-inducing, they have a refreshing Acai Bowl ($13) and Granola Bowl ($12) too.

The Brewing Ground’s prices are slightly steeper, but their portions make up for it. Make sure you visit with ample stomach space for The Brewer’s Breakfast ($26++) so you can enjoy their crispy hash browns, maple bacon, sauteed spinach and mushrooms, and eggs done to your liking. The Crab and Signature Scrambled Eggs on Toast ($25++) spotlights their perfect, creamy scrambled eggs, and is ladened with umami sauteed crabmeat and ikura.

Refuel Cafe is located under one of Bedok’s HDB flats, allowing Bedok residents to enjoy a hearty brunch without having to leave their neighbourhood. 14. 8Bar Espresso
The Paya Lebar neighbourhood is home to plenty of food options, from restaurants to cafes. The latest to join the latter group is 8Bar Espresso, a cafe that offers fusion brunch fare and beverages, set amidst a space styled to look like a modern traditional Chinese medicine hall. The menu at 8Bar Espresso comprises rice bowls, all-day sandwiches, and coffee prepared with house-roasted beans.
Try their Lu Rou Fries ($13+), a riff on poutine with Taiwanese braised pork instead of cheese curds. We also enjoyed the Surfboard ($19+), a loaded soft-shell crab bagel that’s packed with creamy scrambled eggs and tobiko. For drinks, try their Iced Black Sesame Latte ($9+) if you’re a goma lover. This nutty beverage is not too sweet, thanks to the house-made black sesame paste used.
