Goreng Story draws an interesting crowd. Military personnel often visit the Sembawang eatery during the day, as it is right next to Nee Soon Camp. But Goreng Story is also a haunt for night owls, as it is open 24 hours every day of the week.

As its name suggests, Goreng Story is best known for its diverse and delicious range of nasi goreng.

There are three signatures here, namely the Butter Chicken Goreng (from $9.99), Mutton Rendang Goreng (from $12.50), and Chilli Crab Goreng ($14.50). While the last one is likely to turn heads, regulars swear by the first one.

And that’s the nasi goreng we tried. It was packed with the unmistakable flavour of butter chicken—rich, tangy, and aromatic. Of course, there were also shreds of charred chicken in the mix. Each grain of basmati rice was also fluffy and nicely separated. By the way, you have the option to switch to jasmine or brown rice.

The eatery has some really value-for-money options as well. That includes the Plain Prata, which is priced at $1 a piece. Don’t expect top-tier prata here—it’s reasonably crispy, but lacks that buttery, savoury goodness you’d expect. Aside from plain prata, they’ve also got options such as Coin Prata ($4.59) and Kaya Prata ($3.99).

Another cheap option is the Teh Tarik, priced from just $1. At this price point, you’re getting a small cup of this iconic drink, but we’re not going to pass up the milky and fragrant goodness of teh tarik.
