Joji’s Sandwich Parlour by Joji’s Diner is a new cafe in Serangoon

Popular retro American cafe Joji’s Diner recently launched a new cafe named Joji’s Sandwich Parlour. As you can tell from their name, sandwiches are the main speciality here! FYI, the new space is situated right next door to the original Joji’s Diner in Serangoon.

Just like Joji’s Diner, the sandwich parlour has the same iconic American diner charm but with a street-style spin. Enter the cafe and you’ll see how the space is adorned with vintage posters, old jerseys, and skateboards.

Compared to the breakfast offerings at Joji’s Diner, the focus on the menu here is their US-style sandwiches.

If there’s one sandwich you must try here, it’s the Classic Reuben ($26) which stars generous amounts of black Angus beef brisket, yellow mustard, sauerkraut, and sliced cheese. The beef is the star of the show; brined for 14 days and smoked over hickory wood, there was a distinctive smoky flavour that we really enjoyed. You get to choose between Sourdough and Foccacia for the Classic Reuben!

Next, we had the Shrimp Po’ Boy ($22), which is a nod to the famous Louisana classic. Joji’s Sandwich Parlour’s take is slightly different from the original as they use grilled shrimp instead of fried, battered ones. We appreciated that they didn’t skimp out on the amount of shrimp, and each piece was also incredibly juicy and fresh. Overall, we really liked the grilled shrimp rendition, as it let the freshness of the shrimp shine through.

Along with your sandwiches, you also get to pick two sides of your choice. Choose from nine different options: Potato Salad, Onion Rings, Coleslaw, and Mushrooms are just some examples

Sandwiches aside, they also have several other items such as their Joji’s Lasagna ($18), a house specialty! What’s special about this dish is that it is breaded and fried once taken out of the oven, giving it a nice, crispy edge.

There are also a bunch of starters for sharing. Go for their Fresh Calamari ($14) or the lesser-seen Fried Okra ($12). The latter was to die for, and bear in mind this is coming from someone who typically dislikes anything with okra.

A meal isn’t complete without getting a drink to quench your thirst. Go for the Yuzu & Matcha Soda ($6.90), a concoction of bitter, sweet, and citrus notes, or the Cranberry Cooler ($6.90) perfect for the sultry weather here in Singapore.
