Cafe Manna is a new cafe in a former chapel at Mount Sophia

Mount Sophia has a new addition to its quiet neighborhood: Cafe Manna. A nine-minute walk from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station, including a long flight of stairs and an upslope walk, you’ll find The Secret Haven, a stunning event space perched on a hill that doubles up as a cafe.

The building used to be a chapel, so you’ll find elements such as stained glass windows and uber-tall ceilings, along with a beautiful church facade.

Upon entering, we noticed how bright and well-lit the space was, thanks to the ample natural light streaming in from the roof panels.

Food-wise, you can look forward to a small brunch menu with mains under $25+, as well as specialty coffee by their sister brand, AM Coffee.

Their Rosti with Sausage and Egg ($18.90+) is a must-try.

The rosti boasted a crispy exterior while retaining a soft and tender middle with distinct potato strands.

Paired with a generous dollop of sour cream, each bite was simply sublime.

Those who want a sweet treat instead will enjoy the Waffles with Banana & Summer Berries ($16.90+), served with maple syrup on the side.

Freshly baked on-site to order, each waffle square was perfectly crisp on the outside, with a fluffy middle.

Otherwise, you can cool down from the heat with an Acai Bowl ($14.90+).

We found the acai base smooth and creamy, pairing well with the crunchy granola and fresh fruits. It wasn’t too sweet, either!

For drinks, it’s not hard to see why their Bandung Rose Latte ($7.50+) is a popular pick.

This pretty concoction features bandung syrup at the bottom, freshly pulled espresso, fresh milk, and a thick layer of rose-spiked cream to finish. First, you get the rich cream zhnged up with delicate floral notes, followed by the full-bodied latte with a hint of bandung.

I preferred the alcohol-spiked Tiramisu Latte ($8.50+) for its bold and intense flavour profile.

This dessert-like beverage came with a ladyfinger biscuit for dunking into. The strong brew, paired with the indulgent mascarpone cream and cocoa powder cap, made for a delicious pick-me-up.
