Fans of pig trotter rice would have heard of Shi Nian Pig Leg Rice, especially with their recent expansions. With close to 20 outlets across Singapore today, they have been on the up and up. It turns out that the popular chain actually started in 2019 as Lin Ji Pig Leg Rice, before rebranding to Shi Nian earlier this year when they opened more outlets. Their first stall, which has retained the name of Lin Ji, is situated at Albert Food Centre.

A bowl of Pig Trotter Rice is priced at $5.90, and it features a hearty combination of braised pig trotter, salted vegetables, and prawn cake. The rice bowl is topped with a drizzle of their signature braising liquid as well as a handful of coriander. You can get more salted vegetables for an additional $2!
Best believe that each piece of pig trotter strikes a good balance of skin, fat, and meat. Many patrons enjoy the tender and well-marinated layers that are said to be a good source of collagen—a supplement that keeps your skin healthy.
There’s also the Swirly Intestine ($9), which is served with their house-made chilli sauce. It may not look like much, but it’s all about quality over quantity for this dish. If you’re big on innards, you’ll enjoy the chewy texture and funky flavour.
