Fans of Korean food are no strangers to gimbap, those rice rolls made of gim and bap—seaweed and rice. But mala-flavoured gimbap, on the other hand, is likely to come as a surprise to them. If you’re interested in trying just that, head on down to SSADA GIMBAB, a new Korean restaurant in Beauty World’s Bukit Timah Shopping Centre.

The Mala Pork Gimbab ($10) sees rice rolls packed with spicy pork, egg, cucumbers and more with the unmistakable taste of mala permeating it all. It’s said to be not overly spicy, so barring those who order “da la” at mala places, this should be manageable.

SSADA has plenty of other gimbap on offer, including the Kimchi Gimbab ($9), Cheese Gimbab ($9), and even Tonkatsu Gimbab ($11). Having crunchy tonkatsu pork within fluffy rice rolls and other ingredients makes for quite the treat.

If you’d like to have the tonkatsu in a heartier dish, try the Curry Tonkatsu Rice ($14). Crunchy, juicy pork slices are joined by a generous serving of rice and fragrant, sweet curry. Other rice bowl dishes here include the Cheese Kimchi Fried Rice ($14) and Spicy Stir Fried Squid Rice ($13).

Other great picks here include the Kimchi Stew (price TBD), Tteokbokki (price TBD) and more. This is one place you have to check out if you’re looking for a new Korean place to try in Bukit Timah.
