Warabimochi Kamakura to open in JEM

Shoutout to Westies: Warabimochi Kamakura, the beloved Japanese dessert chain known for its premium warabimochi, is expanding its presence in Singapore with a new outlet opening in JEM!

This is set to be their fourth Singaporean outlet, following their Holland Village flagship, and two recent Orchard openings in Takashimaya’s basement and Taste Orchard.

For those who aren’t too familiar with the brand, here’s a bit of history. The Japanese brand has been around for over two decades now, with 50 outlets in Japan. Their foray into Singapore also marks their debut in Southeast Asia!

The brand is famous for their warabimochi and mochi desserts. Unlike your typical glutinous rice flour-based mochi, bracken starch is covered in kinako (roasted soybean flour). The result is a mochi with a unique, much softer, almost silky chew.

The brand still makes their warabimochi with traditional methods, using high-quality ingredients. They are also the only warabimochi makers in Singapore that make their wares with 100% bracken starch, while others tend to mix in tapioca flour.

There’s no word when their JEM outlet will be opening, but we spotted the hoarding at the basement of the popular Jurong East Mall.

We’ll update this article when we get more information, but in the meantime, here are some things to look forward to at Warabimochi Kamakura JEM.

You can order a 5-Piece Box ($7.90) or 10-Piece Box ($14.90) of their signature Warabimochi, or opt for their mochi desserts.

One of our favourite ways to enjoy it is in the Ice Cream ($5.90), where the mochi gets paired with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream. It’s a must to add the Kuromitsu Syrup for $1.50, as the caramelly Okinawan brown sugar syrup takes the dessert to the next level.

Their drinks are also worth trying, akin to bubble tea, but with mochi instead of pearls. Prices start at $5.90, and include bases such as Hokkaido milk, matcha, or hojicha.
