For fans of tapioca cake, did you know when Singaporeans first started eating tapioca? It was during the Japanese occupation from 1942 to 1945 and there was a shortage of rice. With many people starving, they were forced to eat tapioca instead. Soon after, people started finding different ways to cook it which eventually led us to the creation of the tapioca cake. If you’re wondering where to get some, Heng Heng Ondeh-Ondeh & Tapioca Cake is just the spot to head to!

Heng Heng’s handmade Tapioca Cakes ($0.70 per pc, or $3.20 for 5 pcs) are simply to die for. They are boiled tapioca coated with freshly grated coconut. Though a simple dish, the tapioca cake is light and has the perfect amount of sweetness without overpowering the natural taste of the tapioca. Additionally, the tapioca cake melts in your mouth and is still moist in the middle.
