Joo Heng Noodle in Toa Payoh has famous wonton mee

We recently covered Kim Keat Hokkien Mee, a popular Toa Payoh stall that our writer highly rated, with a score of eight out of 10. Another Toa Payoh gem, for those of you not familiar with the neighbourhood, is Joo Heng Noodle, a stall located in Toa Payoh West Market & Food Centre that’s famous for their green wonton noodles.

In particular, fans of Joo Heng love their Wanton Jade Noodle ($4/$5), which features jade green spinach noodles instead of the usual egg noodles.

These noodles are said to be springy in finish, and pair well with their wonton mee sauce.

Then, you have your standard slices of char siew and wonton. If you’re expecting the smoky, charred sort of KL-style roast meat, you won’t find it here; Joo Heng serves a more typical Singaporean-style, red-dyed char siew, which has received mixed reviews online. Their wonton, on the other hand, comes in small rounds packed with pork and even sesame seeds.

For something with more liao, get their Dumpling Noodle ($4/$5) or Dumpling Soup ($4.50) instead, for shui jiao that’s generously stuffed with prawn, water chestnut, and black fungus.

Other than spinach noodles, there’s a choice to stick to classic egg noodles with their Wanton Noodle ($4/$5), if you prefer that. You can order this dry, or in soup.
