Previously a trader, Gilbert became a hawker when he decided to take over his father’s (Ah Ter) business. Fun fact, Gilbert was actually voted the Most Handsome Hawker in 2005 by The Straits Times! However, his looks aren’t the main attraction of the stall, but definitely his Bak Chor Mee.
Offering a range of prices, customers can enjoy the classic Fishball Noodles from $4.50 onwards, with prices going up to $10.00 with the addition of other ingredients like pork liver and prawns.

Offering price points of $6, $8, and $10, the $6 version is served with fishballs, fishcake, braised mushrooms, minced pork, pig liver and pork lard, as well as one prawn and pork ball.

The noodles are al dente, giving them a nice springy texture. Flavourwise, the sauce coats the noodles well, giving a good blend between the savouriness and vinegar, with a nice kick of spice at the end. Something interesting about Ah Ter’s noodles is that there is a hint of sweetness from the ketchup that you don’t typically taste in Bak Chor Mee, unless it’s the non-spicy version.

As for the ingredients, the fishball has a pleasant amount of flavour and has a delightfully bouncy and QQ texture while the pork liver is really tender and not too gamey in flavour.

The pork ball has a pretty good bite to it and is well-seasoned. As for the prawn, however, it is a tad disappointing and it is recommended to go for the $8 and $10 versions if you’re looking for better quality and bigger prawns.

What is surprising as well is that the soup is pretty tasty. It is light, comforting and has an amazing porky flavour. Compared to other stalls, the soup here is definitely a lot more flavourful. On top of that, the spring onions give an added texture to each sip.
Try Ah Ter Teochew Fishball Noodles Today!
Although they are not the best, Ah Ter serves a pretty tasty bowl of Bak Chor Mee and is definitely one of the better ones around the CBD area. If $6 for a bowl is a little pricey for you, you can also opt for their $4.50 version, which is served with lesser ingredients. Hurry down for a taste today!
