A family-run bakery of eight years, Olsen Bakehouse strives to use all-natural and locally sourced ingredients as much as possible with their bakes. Although they’re not halal-certified, the ingredients used are sourced from halal-certified suppliers and they do not use alcohol in their bakes as well. On top of that, they take pride in making their cakes with less sugar which will appeal to the more health-conscious individuals.

Primarily a takeaway concept, the bakery does have a table outside and a bench by the window where customers can have a quick bite and go. Decked in earthy tones, the design of the interior is minimalistic, with white drapes hanging over the window frame and a gigantic shelf in the middle of the bakery with photo frames and a bunch of various random items on display.

All of the bakes are made fresh every morning, with flavours like the Ondeh Ondeh, Orh Nee, Pulut Hitam, Milo, and Kopi, Kaya & Peanut Butter being among the best-sellers. Most of their cakes start from $56 for a 5.5-inch cake, with individual slices served at $8 each. Olsen Bakehouse offers an array of other baked goods as well like Sugee Cakes, Scones, Sourdough Bread, and Brownies.
Orh Nee Cake ($8)

Starting off with one of their most popular flavours, the Orh Nee Cake is actually a unique combination of pandan chiffon cake and house-made orh nee paste. The chiffon cake is incredibly light and fluffy, with a pleasant pandan flavour that blends well with the creamy orh nee paste. As the flavour of the orh nee isn’t too overpowering, this is definitely suitable for most palates and definitely worth a try.
Sesame Yuzu Chiffon Cake ($8)

Similar to the Orh Nee Cake, the Sesame Yuzu uses the same chiffon cake, just without the pandan flavour. Those who enjoy the flavour of Yuzu will probably like this more than those of black sesame as the Yuzu is more prominent.
As the Yuzu cream is in the middle layer of the cake, you will surely taste it in every bite. However, as the flavour of the black sesame comes from the frosting, you might not get an adequate amount of it during each bite. Additionally, the flavour of the black sesame is pretty faint, allowing the Yuzu to shine through more.
Almond Sugee Cake ($8)

Lastly, we have a cake that we certainly don’t see too often. Typically served during festive holidays like Christmas, Olsen Bakehouse serves it all year round for us to enjoy! Similar to a pound cake, the Almond Sugee Cake is a lot denser than your usual dessert cakes. Baked with a generous serving of almonds, each bite is greeted with a delightful blend of sweetness and nuttiness, with a slight crunch that compliments the texture of the cake.
