Open for more than 11 years, Chuan Kee’s recipe might be a well-kept secret, but their popularity certainly isn’t. Drawing snaking queues even before lunchtime, they also have another stall located at Chong Pang Food Centre at Yishun. Their menu is pretty concise, consisting of three options — Duck Rice, Duck Noodles, and Duck Porridge, all priced at $3.80/$4.80/$5.80.

The Braised Duck Rice ($3.80) is served with a generous portion of flavourful rice, although it gets slightly clumpy after sitting for a while. The duck is tender and isn’t too gamey, although it is on the drier side. There isn’t a lot of meat served as well, making it wise to opt for the bigger portions for a more substantial amount.

Elevating the dish is their chilli sauce, adding layers of spice and tang to each bite.

The tau kau has a pleasant chewiness and soaks up the sweet and herbaceous sauce beautifully. Additionally, the soup has a delightful herbal flavour and a slight kick of pepper to it.

Overall, while Chuan Kee’s duck rice is pretty tasty, a significant improvement would be to pour their sauce over the rice and duck for more flavour and moisture.
