Depot Road Zhen Shan Mei Laksa is a well-renowned stall across the island, having been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for four years consecutively. The original owner of the stall, Madam Ang, previously sold her famed laksa in claypots for over 10 years at Depot Road before turning in the apron for six to seven years due to her health.

Her nephew Mr Zhang wanted to carry on his aunt’s legacy, taking over from her and even learnt the recipe from scratch. He has been running the stall ever since and continues to serve up delectable bowls of laksa to satisfied customers.

The stall offers their laksa in three sizes – small, medium, and large at $4.50, $5.50, and $6.50 respectively. For those small eaters or for those looking for a quick bite, the small portion would be a good choice. However, if you’re looking for a more substantial meal, the medium or large portion would be a much better option.

It is recommended to go for the thick bee hoon as its smooth texture makes it more shiok to slurp with the gravy. Each bowl is served with fish cake, tau pok, prawns, shredded chicken and bean sprouts. Unfortunately, this dish doesn’t come with cockles, unless you add-on to your dish. The lemak gravy has a fragrant aroma and is probably one of the thickest laksa gravies you would find across the island!

Flavourwise, each sip has an amazing burst of umami, with the perfect kick of spice. For those who prefer a little more heat, be sure to add their sambal chilli for a little more kick to your laksa. Additionally, the ingredients elevate the dish, adding different dimensions of textures and flavours.
