Uncle Tan and Auntie Cheong are definitely experts in cooking up excellent nasi padang, having run Serangoon Nasi Pandang since 1983. They first opened in Serangoon before moving to Bishan, where they soon after sold their business to a loyal customer.

However, it didn’t take long for the couple to step out of retirement. As they were tired of the boredom at home, they opened Serangoon BBQ & Curry with their son Eugene in late 2021. Loyal customers of their stall can now rejoice!

Serving up scrumptious Chinese-Indo-style nasi padang, the stall takes pride in using only the freshest ingredients. Even their butterfly pea flowers are freshly plucked in their garden right behind their stall.

Preparation starts as early as 6.30am daily, with the owners cooking up to 20 dishes for customers to choose from and enjoy. Additionally, they also deliver food to the needy residents in Sin Ming up to three times a week. Truly inspiring to see them serve the community despite their tiring work!

The Signature BBQ Chicken Set is served at an affordable price of only $5. Consisting of a mix of white and fragrant butterfly pea rice that’s doused in curry, the dish is served with a generous amount of mouth-watering BBQ chicken, home-made sambal belacan, and two side dishes of your choice. Do note there is no extra charge for the butterfly pea rice but as it’s in limited quantity, it’s on a first come first serve basis.

The addition of the butterfly pea rice definitely adds a nice pop of colour to the dish. The chicken is incredibly crispy, with the crackling sound of the skin echoing throughout each bite in your mouth. Marinated with over 17 spices, the meat is flavourful and juicy, with a slight char that adds a pleasant touch of smokiness to it. Their belacan is also a standout, with it bringing a good amount of heat with a hint of acidity that pairs perfectly with the chicken.

Choose from an array of tasty side dishes like their omelette, achar, and sambal goreng! The omelette comes cooked with chopped long beans, giving a nice crunchy texture.

Something interesting about their achar is that they serve it with orange, an ingredient you don’t really see in this side dish. It’s a lot lighter as compared to your typical achar, but nonetheless, it’s still a refreshing side dish option. Their sambal goreng is your typical stir-fried long beans and tofu, which adds a great contrast of textures.
