Tian Nan Xing Minced Pork Noodle is a heritage bak chor mee stall
When we interviewed Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee, their next-gen founder mentioned that some of the leading bak chor mee stalls in Singapore can all trace their heritage back to one hunchbacked street vendor, named Tan Lian Hock. Tan peddled his wares in Chai Chee and became the godfather of bak chor mee (BCM) in Singapore; he was best known for the soupy version of the dish—BCM’s original form. Today, his legacy continues in three key stalls: Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee, Xing Ji, and Tian Nan Xing.

Tian Nan Xing is the stall we’re talking about today. It is run by the third and fourth-generation descendants of the elder Tan, who carry on his soup BCM legacy. Today, Tian Nan Xing is located in Bedok 511 Market. The stall often flies under the radar because people tend to associate the east’s BCM icons with Xing Ji and Famous Eunos. Still, Easties who know this stall know just how good it is—you’ll often find queues for up to an hour at dinnertime.

The broth is the highlight: pork bones are slow-cooked with garlic to create a savoury broth that pairs well with the QQ noodles. Each portion also comes with minced meat, meatballs, and—the star of the show—handmade pork dumplings.

Another one of Tian Nan Xing’s perks is that they’re an evening stall, running from 5:30pm to 12:30am daily, so they’re great for supper if you live nearby.
