Those with a penchant for old-fashioned treats are in for a savoury treat at Tong Heng Traditional Cantonese Pastries. Located just down the road from the newly opened Maxwell MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast line, this 87-Year-Old bakery has been around since the 1920s. Originally a humble street stall, they opened their first brick-and-mortar bakery opened in 1935.

The best-selling item on the menu is their signature Egg Tart ($2.20). Dubbed by many as one of the best in Singapore, the tart is made up of a generous filling of wobbly, semi-molten egg custard encased in a flaky pastry shell shaped like a diamond.

Also popular is their Coconut Egg Tart ($2.40), where hand-grated coconut is mixed in with the custard. None of the pastries sold at Tong Heng contain any form or traces of dairy.
