Established in the 1990s, Soon Soon Huat Curry Puff is currently helmed by third-generation owner Miss Tay Mei Lan. She has taken over the reins from her mom, Mdm Ow Siew Kheng, who first learned from her own mother. Mdm Ow continues to help with the baking daily, carrying on the family’s legacy.

Their curry puffs are certainly in high demand, baking up to 500 per day! After the pastries are freshly kneaded, stuffed, and shaped, it is then deep-fried for seven minutes and taken out after three minutes to ensure they don’t stick to each other. After they are cooked, they are left to rest to cool and for the oil to be drained.
Curry Chicken Puff ($2)

Starting with their signature, the Curry Chicken Puff has an incredibly crispy and flaky exterior. Stuffed with a generous amount of filling, the luscious curry hits your tongue as soon as you bite into it. It has the perfect amount of heat, leaving an addictive lingering spice after each bite.
The potatoes are delightfully soft and have a nice bite to them while the chicken is tender, giving a good contrast of textures. Additionally, the curry puff isn’t too oily, allowing you to wolf down a few without feeling too jelak.
Custard Puff ($1.30)

Crispy and flaky on the outside as well, the custard inside has a pleasant sweetness with a hint of egginess to it that blends well with the butteriness of the pastry. Texturewise, it is silky and creamy, similar to that of an egg tart. A tasty option for those craving something on the sweeter side.
Potato Puff ($1.50)

For those looking for a non-meat option, the Potato Curry Puff tastes exactly like their signature version, just without the chicken and egg. As it contains only potatoes, it gives more bite to the curry puff as well.
