Established by Mr Neo Poh Cheu and his wife in 1985, they first started out by selling their kueh by the roadside in Boon Lay. Having previously worked for various eateries, it was there that they picked up the skills of making kueh before opening their physical stall at Jalan Kayu, Over the years the stall has relocated to Bedok and currently resides at Bukit Merah. Across its 30-year history, the stall has won numerous awards and has even amassed quite a decent amount of media attention, displaying a true testament to their craft.

Specialising in their unique and colourful ang ku kueh, each piece is hand-made, right down to the rolling of the dough and preparation of the filling. Though it involves laborious work, the quality speaks for itself and it’s certainly what sets them apart from other stalls.

Besides the traditional flavours like peanut and mung bean, customers can also enjoy the tropical flavour of fruits like durian, mango, and pineapple as well as more modern ones like Black Sesame, Red Bean, and Green Tea. Furthermore, all of the flavours are vegetarian, except for the Salted Bean.

Starting off with a classic, the Soon Kueh comes with a generous amount of turnip and the skin has a pleasant chewiness to it with just the right amount of thickness. The flavour of the turnip comes through really well, with the black sauce and chilli elevating it with extra layers of flavour and a kick of spice.

Yam Abacus ($2.30)

A Hakka dish you rarely find nowadays, the Yam Abacus ($2.30) will definitely bring nostalgia to those who grew up eating it. Additionally, more yam than flour is used in making the abacus seeds, ensuring the flavour of the yam shines through more rather than the flour.

The seeds are delightfully chewy, with the fried onions, mushrooms, and hae bi giving beautiful layers of umami and texture. Some seeds are however clumped together, making it a tad difficult to separate them and enjoy them individually. Be sure to pair it with their chilli for an extra burst of umami and spice!

As for the Black Sesame, it lies more in between a mixture of red bean and black sesame while the Yam would certainly delight all you orh nee lovers with its spot-on consistency. As for their Peanut, slightly more filling would have been better but overall, it is still pretty tasty.
