Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe will open in Somerset in April 2024
There’ll be a new addition to 111 Somerset pretty soon: Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe is set to open their second outlet in the Orchard mall, come April 2024!
We spotted the storefront hoarding while we were visiting 111 Somerset recently. According to a brand representative, the cafe is slated to open in early April this year.
When we did our Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe review last August, we were impressed by the wide variety of old-school bites: think Hainanese chicken chop, kaya butter toast, nasi lemak and more. There’s no telling what this new cafe’s menu will be like, but we’re hoping there’ll be a good assortment of traditional fare and the same retro-inspired fittings as their original outlet.
Over at their Tanjong Pagar cafe, their Signature Hainanese Chicken Cutlet ($15.90)is a must-try. It’s said to be well-marinated with a good crunch, yet juicy at the same time.
There’s also the Nasi Lemak Kukus (from $8.90), which comes with a generous pile of fragrant basmati rice that’s steamed for 45 minutes. You get to pick your protein, from Chicken Rempah Leg to Rendang Mutton.
If you love Nanyang-style kopi as much as we do, you should check out Great Nanyang Heritage Cafe’s version in the form of their Hor Ka Sai (from $3). Known as 虎咬狮 (hǔ yǎo shī) in Chinese, or literally translated to “tiger bite lion”, this beverage is said to be an energising drink that originated in Taiping, Malaysia. Best enjoyed icy cold on a hot day, it comprises a sweet and malty blend of coffee and Milo.
Great Nanyang Somerset will be located on the first floor, opposite Hvala, and right next to Jakarta Ropang Project. We’ll update this story once we get more details on their opening.
