Cuppage Fried Guo Tiao is located in Kou Wei Eating House, a nondescript coffeeshop that’s three minutes on foot from Chinatown MRT Station.

According to reviews online, their CKT is on the wetter side. Each plate comprises a generous serving of yellow noodles and flat rice noodles, crunchy beansprouts, scrambled egg, and fishcake slices, all tossed in a sweet and savoury dark soy sauce mix. It’s ugly-delicious at its best, without the hefty price tag.

Those who love hum should go for the larger $4 serving, which includes a heaping spoonful of cockles. The $4 and $5 portions also come with more liao, such as sweet lap cheong AKA Chinese sausage.
This stall is fairly popular among those who work in the area, so try to avoid the peak lunch hour as it can get crowded.
Another hidden gem in Chinatown is Small Bites, an under-the-HDB kiosk near Maxwell MRT Station that sells cheap pandan waffles and handmade curry puffs.
