Fook Kin has new XXL curry mama pot

Tom yum mama pots have been quite the trend of late, with a spate of eateries coming up with their take on the dish, popularised by Jeh O Chula in Bangkok. If you’re one of those who finds the sour-spicy Thai soup unappealing, Fook Kin has got something that may be more up your alley—an XXL curry mama pot loaded with siew yoke, char siew and more!

The popular eatery near Somerset MRT Station is a joint venture between roast meat specialists Roast Paradise, radio DJ duo The Muttons, as well as the owners of Fatboys. It’s here that you’ll be able to find the uber-caramelised roast meats from Roast Paradise in air-conditioned comfort, in the heart of Orchard Road. This latest creation is a spin-off from the tom yum version, brimming with a house-made curry that’s said to be subtly spicy and super lemak.

Priced at $38++ for the smaller Curry Mama Pot that’s good for two to four, and $58++ for the Curry Mama Pot Ultra, to be shared among four to six, it’s time to jio your buddies to Killiney Road soon.

Whichever option you go for, the pot is topped with thicc slices of Fook Kin’s KL-style roast meats—char siew, roast pork belly, and roast duck. Accompanying these are house-made fish dumplings, AKA her giao, as well as eggplant and tau pok, which would make perfect vehicles for the curry gravy. Bringing some freshness to the pot is slices of cucumber, though if you asked me, I’d ask for these to be excluded. Topping it all off are raw eggs, which you’re recommended to mix into the hot curry gravy to add creaminess.

If you order the Ultra pot, the medley of ingredients is made even more luxe with the addition of braised baby abalone!

If you feel like the curry pots don’t have enough roast meat, order their Mix Platter ($30++), which gets you 300g of char siew, siew yoke, and roast duck.

And for bigger groups who want more variety, consider ordering their Truffle Wanton Mee ($15.80++), which is not overwhelmingly truffle-y in flavour, allowing you to savour the house blend of sauces and the various elements in the bowl.
