Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh has new stir-fried porridge and zi char dishes
We know Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh for their Klang-style claypot bak kut teh, but they are also known for making really good fried porridge! In case you didn’t know, this congee is typically stir-fried with dark soya sauce and then garnished with pork lard, spring onion, and fried shallots. In light of their third anniversary, Feng Xiang Bak Kut Teh has added new dishes to the menu, and we visited the branch at VivoCity to check them out.
We tried a total of six items, and the Iberico Pork Fried Porridge ($9.90) turned out to be our favourite. This comforting bowl featured slices of fatty pork collar along with spring onions, fried shallots, pork lard, and finished with white pepper.

The soft and tender slices of pork collar had a subtle sweetness from the marination. This was followed by the smokiness of pork lard, giving every scoop of porridge a meaty richness.
For something more fragrant, get the Nanyang Seafood Fried Porridge ($7.90). You can expect sambal stir-fried squid, clams, and prawns, adding an extra layer of spicy aroma and rich seafood flavour to the congee.
If the toppings in the Nanyang Seafood Fried Porridge are not enough, you can order the Nanyang Seafood ($9.90) to get more of the spicy goodness. Despite not eating seafood often, I found myself reaching for more clams! The subtle tanginess of the sambal removed any hint of fishiness.
If you want more texture in the otherwise soft porridge, the Garlic Chicken Cutlet Fried Porridge ($7.90) is a great pick! These pieces of fried chicken provided a great textural contrast to the congee, and we thought the garlicky fragrance of this dish was just right as well.
You can also opt for the chicken cutlet a la carte by getting the Fried Garlic Chicken Cutlet ($8.90).
For more variety, we also got the Coffee Pork Ribs ($8.90). The crispy texture and pronounced bitterness of the coffee glaze were quite addicting.
We visited the outlet at VivoCity, where they had a stall and dedicated seats inside Food Republic. These new dishes are available at all outlets except Senja Hawker Centre and Fernvale Hawker Centre.
