CATBAKE is opening in Sengkang Grand Mall with Japanese bakes
Kitty fans, look this way: famous Japanese bakery CATBAKE is opening soon in the North-East! Spotted on the mall directory of Sengkang Grand Mall, you won’t have to travel all the way to The Star Vista to get your hands on their ultra-cute bakes soon.
For those not in the know, CATBAKE at The Star Vista was the first of its kind in the world. As its name suggests, it is a cat-themed bakery helmed by Hokkaido patissier and chef Shinya Tajima, who also owns Chocolate Origin. He is said to be the man behind the Neko Neko Shokupan, a cat-shaped bread loaf that went viral in Japan.
It’s not clear what the menu at CATBAKE’s Sengkang outlet will entail, but we’re pretty sure that you can look forward to the same cat-shaped treats. These include Cat French Toast ($3.60), made with a slice of their signature shokupan loaf. You can add a scoop of gelato to your French toast, with prices for the cold treat starting from $5.50 a pop.

If you’re looking for something savoury, consider the Cat Croque Monsieur ($4.50) or Cat Pizza Sausage ($4.90), both of which also start with a base of the same shokupan. Then, it’s slathered with bechamel and topped with either ham or sausage, then cheese, and broiled for that golden-brown finish.

If bread isn’t your jam, come for CATBAKE’s signature Cat Cheesecake ($28), which comes in two flavours: Original and Dark Chocolate. This layered treat comes with a crumb base, followed by sponge cake, and a cream cheese layer to top.
Don’t leave without a loaf of their Neko Shokupan in your basket too. Baked fresh daily, the loaf comes in variations such as White ($8.80), Chocolate Chip ($10.80), or Raisin and Walnut ($11.80).
In other Japanese cafe news, Takagi Coffee is now open in Tanjong Pagar: they’re a 65-year-old cafe from Japan! Otherwise, check out what we think you should buy at Gokoku Bakery, which was founded in Kobe in 1961!
