You can’t say you’ve been to Old Airport Road Food Centre without having tried Roast Paradise. Established in 2016, they have since built a name for themselves over the years, drawing Singaporeans and tourists alike for their incredible roasted meats.

Undoubtedly one of the most popular stalls at Singapore’s iconic hawker centre, Roast Paradise specialises in three types of roasted meat – Char Siew, Roast Pork, and Roast Duck. Renowned for their char siew, it is first cooked in a drum under charcoal for three hours.

It is then coated with a sweet sauce to give it a beautiful layer of caramelization. Cooked Kuala Lumpur style, fattier cuts of meats are used and roasted for a longer period. This makes the meat incredibly tender and gives it a perfectly caramelized and smoky exterior.

Reasonably priced at $5.80, indulge in the best of both worlds with the Roast Pork & Char Siew Rice. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, chicken rice is served here instead of the typical white rice. That’s already a huge plus point in our books.

A side of char siew sauce is served alongside, giving a delightful layer of sweetness that pairs perfectly with the chicken rice. Interestingly enough, the sauce is reminiscent of bak kwa.

The most popular roasted meat here is the Char Siew and it’s no surprise why as soon as you take a bite. Each slice will send you into an immediate state of euphoria. With a sinful yet mouth-watering layer of fats that melt in your mouth, the char siew is caramelized beautifully, with the charred edges adding a layer of bitterness and crunch. While the sweetness of the marinade is prominent, it doesn’t overpower the pork, still allowing its natural flavour to shine through.

Compared to the char siew, the roast pork is a slight letdown. While it has a pleasant layer of fats and the skin is crispy, it is a tad salty, making it best paired with rice. It is, however still tender and juicy, making it your above-average roast pork.

To elevate your meats even further, dipping them into the chilli delivers profiles of tang and spice that blend well with the flavour of the roasted meats.

What makes Roast Paradise stand out from the rest as well is their free-flow soup. It even comes with generous chunks of meat inside which is incredibly worth your buck! While we are unsure of the rotation of their soup menu, we are certain patrons will still be flocking towards it for its free-flow service.
