Pham Quyen Streetfood At Bedok Shopping Complex

Helmed by Fahmy and his sayang, Aira Pham, she is certainly no stranger to the F&B scene, with her family owning a total of 26 restaurants, push carts and street food stalls in Vietnam. Starting as a home-based business in 2019, they received immense support from family and Muslim Vietnamese community members.

They then made a garang move, opening Pham Quyen Streetfood at Clementi in the same year. Using recipes over 78 years old, she continues to carry on her family’s legacy here in Singapore at Pham Quyen.

From satu to dua, they now have one outlet at Pasir Panjang and another at Bedok. With main kitchens at both outlets, both are popular for different menu items. At their Pasir Panjang outlet, they prepare the pho broth and charcoal grill the chicken while the Bedok outlet is in charge of baking the banh mi bread. But don’t worry lah ok, this doesn’t disparage the quality of either outlet.

Preparation at the Bedok outlet starts from 12am to 6am and almost every ingredient is homemade sia. From the cuts of meat for the banh mi, right down to the butter. Even the bananas, coffee beans, and veggies used are sourced from Aira’s family farm in Vietnam. Fuyoh!

Emperor Beef Pho – Pho Bo Vua ($17.90)

Hailing from the Western province of Vietnam, the Pho served here is on the lighter side. While this might make you think the Emperor Pho is lacking in flavour, we confirm plus chop this one not.

As soon as you take a sip, the incredibly rich beef flavours hit your tastebuds immediately, with zero traces of the MSG-induced taste. Slightly thicker than normal pho broths, each sip is bursting with flavour and extremely comforting. Shiok ah!

With an array of different cuts of beef to enjoy, you’re certainly getting your money’s worth. The tripe is tender yet pleasantly chewy, while the beef tendon ball is bouncy and well-seasoned. Served with a gigantic beef brisket, it was sadly slightly tough.

The beef knuckle slice however is delightfully tender, with a good ratio of fatty to lean meat, with the fats melting nice nice as you bite into it.

To elevate the dish, do add in some of the bean sprouts and culantro leaves (yes it’s a word, not a spelling error) from the basket served alongside for extra textural crunch. Furthermore, squeeze some of the lime for a burst of acidity to give the broth some brightness. As the meat flavours the broth, Pho’s with more cuts of meat will have a stronger depth of flavour. Don’t say we never tell you hor!

Grilled Chicken Banh Mi – Banh Mi Ga Nurong ($6.50)

One of their best-sellers, this one is seriously sedap. The chicken is tender and slightly smoky, blending well with the sweetness of the mayo and spice from the black pepper. Despite having a good kick of heat, don’t scared lah, you won’t feel the need to reach for a cup of water. Additionally, the carrots and cucumber give a good crunch, blending well with the creamy mayo and crispy bread.

Sliced Beef Knuckle Banh Mi – Banh Mi Bo ($6.90)

Compared to the Grilled Chicken Banh Mi, this one a bit sad sia. While the veggies give a good crunch, we felt there was too much of it as it overpowered the beef in certain bites. The beef knuckle however is tender and has a good kick of black pepper that lingers, so still can eat lah.

Chicken Spring Rolls – Bun Cha Gio ($7.90)

If you’re feeling a bit the healthy, these spring rolls confirm boleh. Each roll is wrapped super solid – bursting with ingredients and tight ensuring it doesn’t fall apart as you’re eating it. The fresh vegetables add a pleasant crunch while blending well with the texture of the laksa noodles and chicken. Served alongside some fish sauce, its savouriness and tanginess add depth to each bite, making it a good palate cleanser as well.
